Zelda Rubinstein dead at 76

Actress, Zelda Rubinstien suffered from a heart attack back in December and was put on life support. Some reports are saying she was taken off life support, but apparently her agent has said she passed away due to natural causes.

I'll remember Zelda most for her appearance on Tales Of The Crypt. I used to watch that show as a kid every Saturday. Her most famous role was playing Tangina Barrons in the Poltergeist trilogy. She also appeared in other films such as Sixteen Candles, Teen Witch, Southland Tales and Behind The Mask: The Rise Of Leslie Vernon.

Hulk has joined the Avengers

The Avengers film is going to be massive...I mean it has to be right? You've got major players like Captain America, Thor and Iron Man, who've already slotted positions in the superhero team up. Iron Man was a massive hit and the sequel is looking to join it. If Thor
and Captain America go down just as well as Iron Man, then Avengers is going to be huge.

Things were looking pretty grim for Hulk to appear in the film, due to the low Box Office numbers and Edward Norton's clash with Marvel, but the main man running business at Marvel, Kevin Feige has said that Hulk will indeed be in Avengers and said this about Norton returning:

"It's certainly our intention to use the same actors from film to film where we can."

I was a big of The Incredible Hulk and would love to see nothing more than Iron Man, Thor and Captain America, facing off against the green giant. If Norton returns, that's the cherry on top. Hopefully Marvel can work something out to bring Norton back.

Green Lantern concept art is AWESOME!

Above is our first taste at the Green Lantern film and the taste in my mouth is sweet. We've got major corp characters above such as Abin Sur, Tomar-re and Kilowog. Although this is just concept art, I like the direction they're going in.

Man, this has me very excited. Every character seems to be rocking his own style of suit and I cannot wait to see images Ryan Reynolds in his corp outfit.

AC/DC music video with Iron Man 2 footage

The soundtrack for Iron Man 2 is basically going to feature all songs from AC/DC on it and I cannot complain about that awesome combination.

AC/DC's music video for Shoot To Kill has be spliced with footage of the Iron Man 2 trailers, but there are some new shots in there, but mostly of the Iron Man dancers.

Check out the video HERE.

Racing Stark looks tense in new Iron Man 2 photo

The image above is Tony Stark about to race. As we've seen from the trailer, Whiplash shows up and ruins the day. Bad Whiplash, very bad.

The Last Airbender banners

I know nothing about The Last Airbender. All I know is, everyone wants that bald kid dead, judging from the teaser trailer and Dev Patel looks mega angry.

Jason Momoa is Conan

After rumours about the future of the Conan franchise, news finally arrives that former Baywatch star Jason Momoa will dawn the loin cloth and sword to play the barbarian in the new Conan remake, in which we originally saw Arnold Schwarzenegger in as well as its sequel. We heard talk about a third film with Arnie, where he would play King Conan, but it was scrapped for the remake.

Today it's been confirmed that Jason Momoa has been as our new Conan. Momoa is best known for his role as Ronon Dex in Stargate Atlantis. Momoa bet off rivals such as Supernatural's, Jared Padalecki and Twilight's, Kellen Lutz to the role of the slave who became a barbarian and then barbarian to king.

There are also rumours that the director, Marcus Nispel(Friday the 13th 2009) is trying to get Mickey Rourke to play the role of young Conan's father, but that remains to be seen. The plan is to start filming in March in Bulgaria. I'm both dedicated to Conan and Stargate Atlantis so I'm thrilled with this news.

Cyrus trailer

Jump over to Joblo to watch the hilarious trailer for Cyrus by Clicking Here. Cyrus is playing at the Sundance film festival this year.

Hill comes off as really weird and creepy which makes Cyrus seem more like a dark comedy than a flat out ridiculous comedy like Hill and C. Riley normally do.

What do you think of the trailer? Leave your comment below.

Spider-Man reboot has found it's director already

It was only announced last week that the Spider-Man franchise would be getting a reboot, and already Sony has picked it's director. That man will be Marc Webb.

According to NYM, Marc Webb (Director of last year's "500 Days Of Summer") has been signed on to direct not one, but THREE new Spider-Man films.

I don't blame you if you don't know who this guy is, but he directed (500) Days Of Summer, which just won two Golden Globe awards this past week. Webb has also directed award winning music videos on top of that also.

Bruce Campbell to take on Frankenstein

I really enjoyed My Name is Bruce. Seeing Campbell poking fun, not just as himself, but at his career also, was quite entertaining. I suggest if your a fan of the man with the big chin, then this film is defiantly worth checking out.

It's been announced today that Bruce will be staring in the sequel called Bruce vs. Frankenstein:

“We have an idea where [Bruce] is going to visit a country in Europe and he thinks he’s got an all-expense-paid stay there,” he explains. “They put him up in a big castle and he thinks there are groupies running around, but they’re not really groupies, they’re minions. It’s Bruce and he’s going to play the same clueless character.”

The idea of Campbell facing off against Frankenstein is quite genius. This could be a never ending franchise of Bruce facing off against classic Hollywood monsters and other various paranormal creatures like aliens.

Thoughts on Spider-Man 4 being cancelled and the future of the franchise

I was shocked to hear that Spider-Man 4 was canned early on this week, especially with the amount of money this franchise has racked in at the box office. With the mistakes of Spider-Man 3 and the disagreements followed by the delay, both Sony and Sam Raimi parted ways. Sony is planning on a reboot, where Parker is back in High School.

I gotta be honest, I'm quite trilled with this news, but it does have it's cons too and leaves many questions open for debate. I'm going to give you my 2 cents on this whole scenario and where I'd like to see the franchise go.

The main problem with rebooting this franchise again is you can't repeat what the first Raimi film did. Begin the film with Peter Parker going back to high school after the summer. He has had his power for a few months now and the only bad guys he's ever caught were petty thieves. This way you don't have to go into the origin story once again. The Incredible Hulk reboot pulled this off perfectly.

The villain should not be Green Goblin. It should be someone who has not been featured in any of the films yet. I vote Lizard. I'd like the first Spider-Man film to be animalistic.

My main problem with Raimi's franchise was the never ending problems between Peter and Mary-Jane. This was fine in the first film, but I grew tired of it by the second. Feature Mary-Jane as a background love interest, but don't push her to the foreground till the second film.

One major thing that was absent in Raimi's Spider-Man was the wisecracks Spider-Man would let off during a fight. This is one of the main personality traits of the webslinger and the fact that it wasn't present astounded me.

Putting Peter back in school is a fantastic idea. The first Spider-Man whipped him out so fast that you never got to see more characters like Flash Thompson, who played important roles in the development of Peter as a person.

This is the direction I'd like to see the franchise go so far. Maybe in a few weeks I'll give you a list of what directors and actors I'd like to see in the franchise.

First look at Predators

Sorry for that lack of posts this week my friends. I was away on holidays, but now I'm back, so let's get things rolling shall we?

Below we have the first couple of images from Predators which will be directed by Antal Nimrod.

The images below are pretty good. We get shots of Adrian Brody and blood splatter, Topher Grace...Oh and most importantly, we get to see the Predators.

Blake Lively joins Green Lantern as Carol Ferris

According to SHH, Blake Lively has been cast as Carol Ferris in Green Lantern, which already stars Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan. Ferris is the vice president of Ferris Aircrafts and hires Jordan as a test pilot, but they both become an item.

I've never seen Lively act, so I got no idea if she's got the chops. She might look a tad too young beside Reynolds, who is 11 years older than her, YIKES!

Anywho, what do you think of this casting decision? Do you like it? Hate it? Leave your comments below.

Mike's Recommendation: Layer Cake

Layer Cake (2005)
Director: Matthew Vaughn

"Layer Cake" is lean, mean, tough, and, ultimately, tragic. It is a gangster film in the tradition of "The Long Good Friday," and if it doesn't have the epic scope that elevated "Casino" above other entries in the genre it's got echoes of that Scorsese masterpiece and a lot of good stuff of its own vintage.

Like "Casino," "Layer Cake" tells the story of a man who is very, very good at being a criminal, but makes the mistake of believing that he can stop being one. Both DeNiro's Sam Rothstein and Daniel Craig's unnamed drug dealer want to go straight, but quickly find that they've gotten in too deep, that people depend on them, and that those people will not just let them walk away. Craig's drug dealer is a smart, but self-centered man who believes he's better than the guys he works for and the guys who work for him. By the end of the film, he's learned his lesson.

Craig's slimy, serpentine performance is very convincing and effective. He's surrounded by similarly talented performers in the always dependable Colm Meaney and Michael Gambon. Sienna Miller, who plays his love interest, radiates so much warmth and sensuality that it's not difficult to believe that Craig's dealer would be distracted by her, even when it becomes clear that next week is not promised for him.

The film also looks great. Though it was shot on the cheap, you wouldn't know it for a second, as the compositions in every scene are superb and everything has a cold, barren, metallic feel to it that perfectly suits the tone of the movie. This isn't the London you've got in your minds' eye. This is a place without history, without culture, without values. It's a bleak, soulless world. There's nothing comfortable about it.

What impressed me most about "Layer Cake," however, was not the tragic arc of the story, nor the performances, or the cinematography. It was the fact that the film didn't make mistakes, anywhere. There were no unnecessary scenes, no comic relief that didn't emerge organically out of the material, no attempts to placate the audience or make them feel better about what they were watching. The soundtrack doesn't provide easy emotional cues but picks its spots and nails them, then fades back and lets us draw our own conclusions about what we see. The romantic subplot that develops doesn't seem like an attempt to engage those put off by the rough stuff. It's a vital part of the story, even if we don't realize it at first. The violence is profuse, but relatively bloodless-- it's cold, and businesslike, not passionate. Just like the characters engaged in it.

Finally, there are scenes that are so good, they inspire a kind of awe. I'm thinking first of a scene in which a character says precisely the wrong thing at the wrong time and violence erupts in such a controlled way that you'd think it was premeditated. Then, there's the scene with Craig and Miller in the hotel room, which is sexy without being exploitative and ends in a very unexpected way. Lastly, there's the final scene-- both the set-up, with Craig walking away from his table of friends, thinking hard, and the payoff, when the inevitable takes place just when we're thinking the movie's let its protagonist too easily off the hook.

Three great scenes. No bad scenes. No mistakes. No messiness. "Layer Cake" is an excellent film.

Bad Spider-Man 4 news is spreading!

According to many news outlets, Sam Raimi and the studio are butting heads over the Spider-Man 4 script. Raimi wants Vulture as the bad guy, while the studio wants a romantic sub-plot between Spider-Man and Black Cat.

To be honest, I hate both ideas. I'm not a Vulture fan and there are so many other great villains that Raimi could use. Also adding Black Cat just makes things worse than what they are. If Peter is having some sort of love connection with Black Cat, then we're in for more Parker and Mary-Jane relationships problems, and haven't we had enough of that with the first three movies?

We're also told that production has been put on stop until the script is done. What does this mean? It means that the release date could very well be delayed.

Things are not looking good for the webbed wonder.

Michael Cera Addresses Possible Scott Pilgrim Sequels

Michael Cera was interviewed by Collider for his new film Youth In Revolt, and was asked a few questions about Scott Pilgrim being turned into a film franchise:

Michael: I don't know about that. That's hard to say because the movie encompasses the whole graphic novel series.

Isn't [O'Malley] still writing more?

Michael: He's writing the last one. There's going to be six, and the sixth one is going to come out sometime next year.

They didn't sign you for more films, just in case?

Michael: I don't think so, no.

Well this isn't much of a surprise. Everyone knew the movie would be self contained, so pretty much the whole story will be featured in the film. And if all this positive buzz we been hearing from other directors about the film are realized, why would anyone want a sequel? Right now, all fans just want to see some kind of footage for this movie and it has to happen sooner or later, right? Look for Scott Pilgrim vs. The World to be released sometime in 2010.

My anticipated films of 2010

2010 is upon us and it's time took look ahead to what films I'm looking forward to seeing.

Inception

How can you not be excited for anything Christopher Nolan does? Sure I have no real idea what's going on in the trailer, but god dammit, it's Nolan.

Predators
There hasn't really been a solid Predator flick since the first one. I somewhat enjoyed Predator 2 and AVP for what they were, but after AVP2, I knew they had to do something stand alone with this alien species. Predators, from what I understand, is a sequel to the 1987 film. Robert Rodriguez will be writing and producing, so I have much confidence at where the franchise is right now.

The Expendables
Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Steve Austin, Mickey Rourke, Bruce Willis, Eric Roberts and Arnold Schwarzenegger....NUFF SAID!

Clash of the Titans
Sam Worthington has been impressing of late and to see how he holds up in a massive adventure film like this, is going to be something interesting to see. The trailers look decent, but I feel like a lot is being held back, which is a good thing. Let the God's duke it out!

Machete
The fake trailer for Machete was fantastically hilarious and badass. I wonder how close the film will follow?

Hot Tub Time Machine

The trailer to this looks so freaking hilarious. Also seeing John Cusack doing comedy again is something I look forward to...And no, you can't count 2012 as a comedy.

Alice In Wonderland
Johnny Depp can't do no wrong in my eyes. The guy embraces characters like no other. I'm slapping my 9 euro down just to see him as the Mad Hatter. The trailers look marvelous, especially in 3D, which blew me away.

I Love You Phillip Morris
Last time I heard, I Love You Phillip Morris does not have distribution for the UK/Ireland , which is a real shame. I guess we'll have to have to see how it does at the Box Office first before knowing if we'll see it in the theaters or on DVD.

The Wolfman
Everything I'm seeing from Wolfman has me excited. It's a damn pity it's been delayed until February. I had this title down for my most anticipated films for 2009 list...That's a long waiting time.

Youth in Revolt
I gotta say, I wasn't really looking forward to this film until I saw the R-rated trailer. This is the film where Michael Cera has to play another character who is not awkward. If you don't like Cera, then it's best to avoid this film as it features two Cera's.

The Green Hornet
Unlike a lot of people, I enjoy Seth Rogen's work. Seeing this guy in a superhero film has me excited.

Toy Story 3
Every film these amazing bunch of people at Pixar pump out has been gold. I will say that Toy Story is not one of my favorite Pixar films. I much preferred Wall-E, Cars and Up, but that does not mean I don't hold high hopes for Toy Story 3.

Kick-Ass
Everything about this film has fun and entertaining written all over it. Kick-Ass properly falls into my top 5 most anticipated films for this year.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows: Part 1
What will happen to our Potter friends next?....Well if you read the books you know...

Cop Out
I'm still awaiting an R-rated trailer to see what kind of comedy we can expect. In saying that, I still like the trailer, especially the part Tracy Morgan is stuffing his face with tortilla chips.

A Nightmare On Elm Street
I'm in two ways about this film. One hand I'm pumped to see Jackie Earle Haley dawn the glove, but on the other hand, I haven't been hearing great things on the remake. I guess I'll have to wait for early reviews from some sites to really see where I stand.

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World
Thanks to fellow writer, Mike, I picked up the first two volumes of Scott Pilgrim and instantly loved what I was reading. With Edgar Wright behind the film, how can I not be extremely excited for this? Wright is a bloody genius. Michael Cera will be taking up the role of Scott. Like Youth in Revolt, Cera has to play a different character to who he normally plays. Will Cera show us something new in 2010?

The A-Team
I didn't grow up watching The A-Team, but with this cast, I gotta say, it has me very curious. Maybe it's because I was never exposed to the show much, but seeing the the new cast doesn't make think about the original cast. This just seems like it's own.

Iron Man 2
I hold Iron Man as one of my all time favorite superhero movies. Everything about it had the right ingredients for a comic book film. Funny thing is, I read a lot of comics and I'll say it right here, I'm not an Iron Man fan. The fact that I enjoyed the film as much as I did, surprised me. The trailer for Iron Man 2 seems to step things up in terms of story, villains, action, effects etc

Film Spunk 2009 awards-Mike's picks

Best Film of 2009: Inglourious BasterdsQuentin Tarantino's films have always left me with a smile on my face walking out of a theater and his latest, Inglourious Basterds, put a huge fucking smile on my face. You can tell in each frame that this movie was put together with such precision by a director who has been mastering his craft with each previous film to give us which could possibly be his masterpiece. Each scene is full of tension that has you gripping your seat and it all culminates with one of the greatest endings to a film all year. Fantastic characters, well crafted dialogue, brilliant directing, and an amazing story makes this my best movie of 2009.

Runners Up
District 9
The Hurt Locker

Worst Film of 2009: X-Men Origins:WolverineI honestly don't know what to say about Wolverine. Oh, I know. It's a big pile of shit. Only redeeming aspect of the film was the title sequence and that was it. The story was poorly written and executed terribly, and the movie was big excuse to fit as many mutants into the film as possible. And normally with a movie like this, you can say something along the lines of "at leas t the action was good." Well not this movie. Since the story was so bad and the characters were dull, you couldn't care less about who is fighting who and what happens to them. Congrats Wolverine, you were my least favorite movie of 2009.

Runners Up
Land of the Lost
Funny People

Underrated Film of 2009: Moon
Duncan Jone's Moon was a film that came out over the summer that went under a lot of people's radars. Which is a real shame, because in my opinion it's one of the best science fiction films to be released in the last 15 years. One of the reasons I can make that statement is because of Sam Rockwell, who gives an exceptional performance. He literally puts the movie on his back and carries it up a mountain. Add to it a well thought out story, beautiful images, intelligent directing, and a fascinating character in Sam Bell, this is definitely one of the best films of the year that no one saw.

Runners Up
Observe and Report
In The Loop

Actor of the Year: Sam Rockwell-Moon

Well now this gives me the opportunity to go into specifics why I thought Sam Rockwell did such a fantastic job in Moon and why I also think he was the best actor of the year. First things first, Sam Rockwell is literally the only character in the film. That's a tall order for an character to take and many have failed in taking on a challenge like that. Well he knocks it out of the park. Everything from Rockwell's facial expressions, emotions, physical movements, and tone of voice really make this character come alive. You really care about him. He really makes you feel his frustrations and anger while he's in complete solitude on the moon. You can see the commitment he put into this part on screen. When an actor can do that, you know you just witnessed something special.

Runners Up
Tom Hardy-Bronson
Christoph Waltz-Inglorious Basterds

Actress of the Year: Melanie Laurent-Inglourious Basterds

How could you not love Melanie Laurent in Inglourious Basterds? Her character Shoshanna was a woman on a mission, who lived with such anger for the Nazi's, and she conveyed that beautifully. She carried herself with such calm through out the film and held her own with the other actors in the film. The best thing about her performance were the little facial reactions she made through out the film and she pulled those off so well, she didn't really need to speak. I look forward to seeing her more.

Runners Up
Zooey Deschanel-(500) Days of Summer
Anna Kendrick-Up In The Air

Director of the Year: Quentin Tarantino-Inglourious Basterds

Quentin Tarantino has always been one of the greatest talents in Hollywood. He's a brilliant writer/director, who loves cinema and it shows in every single one of his movies. How can anyone not appreciate that? His latest effort, Inglourious Basterds, was such an ambitious film and had such high expectations from all his fans. No one else could pull off what Tarantino did with this movie and I'm sure he pleased the majority of his fans with this film. Every aspect of this movie is brilliant and dare I say it, perfect. All put together by a master filmmaker who was at the top of his game. It's a movie made for film lovers and if anyone has dreams of becoming a filmmaker one day, this is a perfect movie to study. Quentin Tarantino is the best director of 2009.

Runners Up
Neill Blomkamp-District 9
Kathryn Bigelow-The Hurt Locker
