Bad Spider-Man 4 news is spreading!

According to many news outlets, Sam Raimi and the studio are butting heads over the Spider-Man 4 script. Raimi wants Vulture as the bad guy, while the studio wants a romantic sub-plot between Spider-Man and Black Cat.

To be honest, I hate both ideas. I'm not a Vulture fan and there are so many other great villains that Raimi could use. Also adding Black Cat just makes things worse than what they are. If Peter is having some sort of love connection with Black Cat, then we're in for more Parker and Mary-Jane relationships problems, and haven't we had enough of that with the first three movies?

We're also told that production has been put on stop until the script is done. What does this mean? It means that the release date could very well be delayed.

Things are not looking good for the webbed wonder.

Hopes for Spider-Man 4

With Spider-Man 4 rumors and news flying at us from all directions, I feel this is the perfect time for me to talk about what I would and would not like to see in the up an coming Spideyadventure.

I loved Spider-Man 1 & 2. I found the first one doesn't hold up all too well in terms up special effects, but the origin story was done so well and it felt like the comic book was lifted right off the pages to the big screen. The second flick had a much larger in story and the effects were superior, but I always felt it had too much Peter and MJ relationship problem scenes. I still enjoyed it alot, but the first one scrapes by as my favourite Spider-Man movie.

Then we've got Spider-Man 3...There was so much wrong with this one. Scene after scene dealt with more Peter and MJ relationship problems and not just relationship problems, but ridiculous scenarios like Spider-Man kissing Gwen Stacy. That scene should of went down when Spider-Man wore the black suit, it would have made much more sense. Don't forget the 10 minutes of Venom, emo Parker, the dancing, Harry not looking anything like a Goblin and that dumbass forgiveness scene where Sandman wisps away freely into the sunrise. Yeah, afterSpider-Man 3, we're all a little worried about the forth installment coming in 2011.

Let's stay positive, clear the slate, because with the mistakes made, Raimi can only learn from them. So where would I like forth installment go? What villains would I like to see? What don't I want to see? Read ahead and find out my friendly readers.

I shall start by talking about villains. The villain becomes the theme of the story throughout each Spider-Man flick. Spider-Man has dealt with family, choices and forgiveness, so by introducing The lizard, you can deal with change, control and fear. Seeing this movie take ananimalistic turn would help compliment these themes. People seem to fear the more than one villain syndrome. Batman & Robin brought on that fear, but remember, Batman Begins showed us we can have three villains and it still work(Ducard, Scarecrow and Falcone) because each villain served the story and were not added for the sake of it. I say introduce Kraven The Hunter as well as The Lizard...And I'm going to say it...I'm going to go that extra mile...Introduce Man-Spider. Now relax, I've not gone mad or anything.

While Spider-Man could be dealing with The lizard, Parker confronts his own problems when he begins to struggle with his further mutation. Peter and Connors could be helping each other, but when they change they rip each other apart. Man-Spider could be the reason people begin to fear Spider-Man, and thus, enter Kraven who is on the hunt for The Lizard and Man-Spider. Maybe cast Bruce Campbell as Kraven?...Ok, maybe Campbell is a bit too old, but a man can dream can't he?

Now let's look at certain rumors like the Blackcat. Casting rumors for the role have been flying all over the place and I don't like it one bit. Spider-Man and Blackcat have a romantic brush that will cause more problems with MJ and Peter, which we've spent the past three movies dealing with these two already. Let Mary-Jane do her own thing or let's show this couple be supportive of each other.

Another thing that I've being saying for years and I'm sure plenty of other people share the same feelings as I do, the scripts for Spider-Man are lacking one of Spidey's main characteristics, his witty banter. Sam Raimi always inputs comedy into a lot of his movies and the lack of that in Spider-Man is strange to me. I hope some of that sarcastic wit is injected into the Spider-Man 4 script.

Overall these are my hopes and desires for the direction of Spider-Man 4.

Thoughts?

Double the Spidey news!

Two bits of Spider-Man 4 news has hit the web. First off it was rumored that Rachael McAdams was considered for the role of Black Cat, but she has come out with this comment following the rumor:

“That’s a total rumor, I have to say,” the actress, who will next be seen in the Dec. 25 action-adventure tentpole Sherlock Holmes, tells EW. “I was hanging out in Toronto the other day and someone came up to me and said, ‘I just heard you’re doing Spider-Man 4.‘ And I said, ‘Really? No one told me!’ It’s not true.” A rep for Sony Pictures concurs: “It’s an Internet rumor, as so many things are these days.”

I would've of liked McAdams in the role of Black Cat because I think she's a fantastic actress, but to be honest I really don't want to see the Black Cat in Spider-Man 4. Why you ask? Well if you don't know, Black Cat and Spider-Man have a little playful romance from time to time and I don't want another Spider-Man film where Peter and Mary Jane have more relationship problems. We've spent three movies with this couple and their never ending sea of banter, enough is enough, let's just have a Spider-Man movie where Peter and MJ are a happy couple and she is supportive towards him without a third party adding to a love triangle.

In another news a casting call has brought to the surface:

2 or 3 year old boy to play 2 year old, Caucasian with RED HAIR, an adorable toddler with an engaging personality, on set experience preferred. IDENTICAL TWINS ONLY

Now a few sites have specualted that this maybe be the kid of Peter Parker and Mary Jane. I really don't think this is the case at all. If it turns out to be, then color me shit-faced. That would be a terrible, that would send me into fury fits of rage. The Movie Blog have gave a little guess of their own by saying it could be Cletus Kasady A.K.A Carnage, but I highly doubt that this character will make the big screen anytime soon. Maybe we're looking too much into this and it's nothing major.

Dylan Baker In Spider-Man 4

Dylan Baker, who has played Dr. Curt Conners in the previous two Spider-Man films, confirmed that he will indeed be in Spider-Man 4. But at what capacity? During a Q&A at Fangoria Con, while promoting the anthology horror film Trick R Treat, he was asked if he would be back for Spider-Man 4.

Baker's answer was that he received his first call about Spider-Man 4 that day and confirmed his involvement. But there's more:

"When Dougherty ribbed him about “just appearing in the background” Baker said that, basically, that’s what he’d be doing. It was unclear if they were being truthful or if, in fact, Dr. Connors would become supervillain The Lizard in this fourth entry in the film series. During their riffing, Dougherty used the phrase “co*ktease for another year” as to whether or not we’d see The Lizard."

So if we were to go on this, it looks like we'll be seeing no Lizard. But for all we know, he could be blowing a bunch of smoke. Personally I would love to see the Lizard as the villain for Spider-Man 4, along with Kraven The Hunter. I believe the story writes itself, but I'm not the one writing the script. Raimi and Sony have been very hush, hush about the villain or villains of the film. The only thing we know about the bad guy is that they will be "distinctly New York." So for now, it looks like Dr. Conners will just be another background character. Keep checking back for any updates because you know we will be doing extensive coverage on this movie once the wheels start rolling.

Bruce Campbell to get ''meaty role'' for Spider-Man 4

I am delighted to announce that the one, the man, the legend, Mr Boomstick himself, that's right you've guessed it, the man with the killer chin, Mr Bruce Campbell will not only be appearing in the fourth coming Spider-Man 4, but he will have a much bigger role. Speaking to MTV director and personal and best friend of Bruce, Sam Raimi announced this by saying to them:

“I promised him we would write something because I really love putting him in the pictures,” he then said. “I promised him a good, meaty role.”

I don't know about you guys, but this news has got my spidey senses tingling. I absolutely love Bruce Campbell and I'm big fan of all his movies. I think this is just what he needs to get back in the game. It was rumoured that he'd possibly be appearing as villain Mysterio in the movie. This may be his finest hour yet and maybe push both Campbell and Raimi to make Evil Dead 4 which we all hope will get made some point in the near future.

Bruce Campbell and Spider-Man 4

I've always chuckled at Bruce Campbell's cameos in the Spider-Man films, but I've always wanted him to have a larger role. While on the red carpet at Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs premiere, Campbell revealed that he would have a major role in Spider-Man 4. He, himself does not know the role. I'm sure he does, but can't reveal that info, I mean he is good friends with the director. The only villian I can see Campbell playing is, Mysterio, which would be perfect!

Kirsten Dunst is confirmed for Spider-Man 4

We get word from Obsessed With Film, that Sony producer, Todd Black has confirmed, Kirsten Dunst is coming back for another chapter in the Spider-Man story:

Black also confirms that Kirsten Dunst is 100% definitely back for the next movie which means the money trio of Maguire/Dunst/Raimi are on board for at least one more go.

Ugh, I don't like this news at all. I never liked Kirsten Dunst as MJ. She never really gave off the essence of the character, who is meant to be sexy, confident and out going. Bryce Dallas Howard as Gwen Stacy, felt more like the MJ character to me in Spider-Man 3. I hope to write a post soon on what improvements I would like to see in Spider-Man 4

Sam Raimi talks Spider-Man 3 and takes charge of Spider-Man 4

I could sit here and type up a massive Spider-Man 3 rant about Aunt May's multiple speeches, Venom's lack of screen time, Emo Parker and the dancing scenes...Oh man the dancing never ended. But let's not hear my problems with the film, let's hear Director, Sam Raimi's problem with the flick, as CHUD posted some quotes from May's edition of Empire:

The bottom line: Raimi doesn't much like Spidey 3, either, the fact that it made a boatload of cash notwithstanding. "They really gave me a tremendous amount of control on the first two films, actually. But then there were different opinions on the third film and I didn’t really have creative control, so to speak."

The crux of that set of conflicting opinions was, as we all assumed/knew/magically understood, Venom. "I don’t even want to comment on Venom," says Raimi, "because I know he’s a great character and all the fans love him. I never want to say anything bad about a much-beloved character because usually it turns out that I’m the one that doesn’t understand what makes it great."

Is there reason to take these statements as a good indicator that the fourth film might at least be more streamlined and entertaining? "The best way for me to move forward on films, I realize…and this was a lesson I had to learn for myself…is that I’ve gotta be the singular voice that makes the creative choices on the film." That's good. This is better. "I love Spider-Man so much that I'd like to continue telling Spider-Man stories but only under those circumstances where I think I can honour him. I don't think I can honour him any other way."

From what I gather, Venom was the biggest issue with Sam. Obviously he didn't want the character in the film. Now that Raimi has full creative control, we won't see Venom or Carnage anytime soon. Raimi is more about the classic Spider-Man villains that he grew up with.

It seems like everyone learnt from their mistakes from the last film and I'm ready to overlook them mistakes so I get my excitement on for Spider-Man 4.

J.K Simmons back for Spider-Man 4

One of my favorite characters from the Spider-Man franchise is J. Jonah Jameson. J.K Simmons did a fantastic job protraying the character in such a hilarious manner. We get good word from superherohype that Simmons will be coming back to reprise his role as the Spider-Man hating editor in chief.

''The fourth film in the blockbuster "Spider-Man" franchise will begin shooting in 2010, actor J.K. Simmons told MTV News at Sundance, revealing that he'll continue in the role of Daily Bugle publisher J. Jonah Jameson. "I saw Sam [Raimi] at his Christmas party."

I leave you with this hilarious scene.

Kirsten Dunst returns as MJ......

Now that Raimi and Tobey have signed on for another two Spider-Man films, it just doesn't feel right without Dunst being back as MJ right? Well for all you lovers of Dunst, don't sweat it anymore, she is back in the role. Here is what we pick up from joblow:

''Dunst has confirmed her involvement in the next two Spidey films, which the studio apparently wants to film back to back. Concerning the matter, Dunst simply had this to say: I'm in.''

I'm one of the many people that wasn't too big on Dunst as MJ. I never felt she captured the essence of the character. And I swear to God if Spider-Man 4 is about Peter and MJ having relationship problems again, which results in MJ being kidnapped and dangled from a high place, I'll attack the screen in front of me. Knowing the Spider-Man films, it will be about MJ and Peter getting married. Doctor Connors will be invited to the wedding where he turns into the Lizard and kidnaps MJ...I hope I'm wrong!
